Mayday Club Youth Choir In 2015, I founded my own federally-registered charity ‘Mayday Club’. The organization’s primary program is the ‘Mayday Club Youth Choir’, which I conduct, lead practices for, and direct. The choir started out...

About Me

Mission Statement: I am a UFV aviation student with a passion for inclusion and neurodiversity.

My name is Nicole Provost. I am a student at the University of the Fraser Valley, in the Bachelor of Integrated Studies program. The focus of my degree program is aviation. I am also a Commercial Pilot (CPL) student at Aquila Aviation in Abbotsford. I am passionate about aviation, and it is my goal to become an airline pilot.

I am also a small-business-owner in Abbotsford, as I run my own federally-registered charity called ‘Mayday Club’ aimed at improving the lives and career prospects of youth with neurodiversities and disabilities. I started the organization in 2015, as I noticed a lack of opportunities for neurodivergent, LGBTQ2+, and otherwise vulnerable youth in my community. Today, the organization consists of a 42-voice youth choir and a radio show on CIVL radio, where we discuss topics surrounding neurodiversity.

I believe that my biggest asset to any workplace is that I am an out-of-the-box thinker who creates opportunities for inclusion and connection in the community by educating others on the tangible value of human diversity, and by valuing the opinions and contributions of people of all backgrounds and neuro-types. I love making sure that everyone in the workplace is included and feels valued.

I am fluent in English and French, and I am proficient in German. I have a basic knowledge of Halq’emeylem, and am committed to learning and sharing the ancestral language of the land I live on.

I am excellent at working with children and youth, especially those who are neurodivergent and / or socially or behaviorally diverse.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons, going on hikes with my dog ‘Kona’, playing with my two sphynx cats, snowboarding, drawing, and spending time with my friends and family.

Career Goals

It is my primary goal to become a commercial airline pilot. I am passionate about aviation, and ultimately, I would like to spend as much time as I can in the air. In order to gain the hours necessary to fly for an airline, I plan to work as a flight instructor at my local airport once I have completed my commercial pilot training and instructor rating.

My secondary career goal is to grow my non-profit charity into a self-sustaining organization. I am passionate about making my community a more inclusive place for people with neurodiversities. I am aware of a major lack of educational and employment opportunities for neurodivergent people in British Columbia, and I plan on doing everything in my power to address this gap. I want to expand my charity’s programming to include several skills-building and recreational programs for neurodivergent youth in my community, and also start a day program for homeschooled neurodivergent youth where they can come together to study and socialize.

I would also love to start a ‘support community’ for neurodivergent adults who are unable to live independently, and who would benefit from being part of a close-knit and safe community of people. For this, I will need a lot of land, and the means to purchase and run several ‘tiny homes’ capable of housing neurodivergent singles and / or couples. I will also need to provide support workers to check in on the adults housed in the community.

In short — I plan on pursuing a career in aviation, while working on the side to make my community a more inclusive place.
